In this chapter, the author put the view on the Spain. Several months later, when Antonio and Thorndiket met each other, Antonio depicted what happened in his home country, Spain. Because Antonio has not been to his country for a long time, he recalled the most famous activity, bull-fighting, in the Spain that attracts Thorndiket to be there. At first, the bull is confined by the gate. Once the gate is opened, the bush rush to picador who holds red cloth and who digs the spear-thrust into bull’s shoulder. The picador’s actions repeats till the bull dies finally. While mentioning bull fighting, almost everyone knows this well-known performance in Spain. From this chapter, I learn more details about bull fighting and it seems I am really on the scene; however, I find it is hard to connect this chapter with former chapters because former chapters describes what happened in the Seven Cavalry and this chapter the author changed the site to Spain.
In this chapter, it is the dialog between General Alison and Dorcas. In the beginning, Dorcas thought General has too many companion for her. Because Catht fell from the horse and her arm was dangling, she needed a surgeon to cure her arm. However, when seeing Cathy, the doctor didn’t salute. It is impolite because of her position in the army. And then, General Alison doesn’t believe that Cathy can talk with animals. Dorcas said Cathy can leave messages to animals. Dorcas took Shekels for example. They thought Shekels is listening what they are talking about. And then whisper around together between animals. It is kind of superstition. Because the doctor didn’t salute to Cathy, General Alison wanted Cathy to punish sergeon. But She just wanted General Alison to talk to the doctor about that faintly. At the end of the chapter, Dorcas tell General Alison about what Cathy want. She want him to preside a court-martial for her. and shake hands with Soldier Boy. From this chapter, I found that although Cathy is just a little girl, she has power so that everyone has to salute her when seeing her and abilities to communicate with animals. It is very strange for me to think that a person has this kind of power and ability.
Chapter 8, it is a start that BB and General Alison took scout responsiblity for, and the brief the conversation between them. Then, the author went forward to chapter 9 and talked about what happended in the story. In chapter 9, they do scout duty and spend three hours on their way home; however during the mission, Cathy heared from Jimmy Slade, the drummer-boy that BB has been ambushed and badly shot. After hear this news, Cathy rode on Soldier Boy and shut: Go. Soldier Boy gallop very fast in order to save BB. In their route to see BB, they confronted a group of wolves. At first, Cathy blew the bugle to frighten them away. But, one hour later, thouse wolves came back again. At that time, Cathy was very tired and fell sleep. Soldier Boy took responsibility for keeping Cathy from being eaten. He landed one of wolves and took wolf’s skull, after then, he took two more skulls of wolves in that threatening away the wolves. In next day, they arrive the place in which BB stayed. Even though Cathy is still a little girl, when she faces some dangerous situations, she shows her bravery and courage handling the condition. That is why both Soldier Boy and Shekels regard Cathy as brick and reptile with compliment.
In this chapter, soldier boy told Shekels what he and mexican plug discussed. There are still two parts in this article. One is that originally, Shekels doesn’t know whether a reptile mexican plug named his is a compliment or not. He asked soldier boy this question and why mexican plug named his a raptile. Then after he knew the difinition that raptile is a plantigrade circumflex vertebrate bacterium that hasn’t any wings and is uncertain, he thought his characters are like reptile’s. Shekels accepted that mexican plug took him for a reptile. The other is that soldier boy and shekels talked about the stealing horse activity.
In this chapter, I find that in our real life, our friends often called us some kind of animals or something basing on our characters. In some situation, they laugh at us; however, in some situation, they just think we are like that kind of animals and without any bad intention. They think they are very familiar with you and understand you, so they call you that.
In this chapter, the author transfer the perspective from the human to the horse. A horse, soldier boy and a crossbreed horse, mexican plug are in discussion. First, the horse asked the plug where is he from and what did he go for. The mexican plug is in the pirate trade which means he would steal something. There are two parts in their discussion. In former one, they talked about the girl, Cathy who almost dominates everything in the Seventh Cavalry and she taught soldier boy to salute correctly, and she is just in every competition. In later part, they discussed the dog, Shekels whose father is a coyote and whose mother is a wild-cat. Thus, in reality, he is not a real dog. According to his charateristics, they name Shekels a raptile.
From this chapter, I learn that although you have already learned and had much knowledge and skills, there are still many things you have to learn. The soldier boy received Cathy’s teaching modestly, and finally did the correct manner when he salute to others. I still haven’t knew much knowlege. I will learn it in a humble way and perform it in the same attitude as soldier boy’s.
In this chapter, the author still keeps focus on the little girl, Cathy. In the beginning, she is adopted by the military. Although it is the first time that the military take care of the child, all are like new mothers and keep her safely like in a nursery. Cathy has many so many merits that everyone regard that she is wonderful and worthy to look after and pertect her faithfully and tenderly. In the Seventh Cavalry, because Cathy is good enough that no other children feel jealous of her that why she receives more attention. Cathy also learn many skills about how to be a horseman and after then she is more and more confident. Finally, the author described that Cathy has a character that she has twins in her mind. One is the girl, and the other is the boy. In the girl side, shes play with a doll. In the boy side, she plays drums.
From this chapter, I find that no one will be welcomed by others unless he or she has many attributes that attract people. In the Seventh Cavalry, all are glad to take care of her and proud of her. Moreover, I think the environment is very important. When a person wants to lern something, if he or she is in a good environment, a person will get it fast and efficiently. Taking Cathy for example, she learns many ways to be a confident horseman quickly.
In this chapter, the author used the same way as previous ones: letter. Cathy wrote a letter to her aunt Mercedes. She described the surroungings in which she lived. There are many animals, delicious food, beautiful sights such as grain plains, and vast mountains accompanying her. Moreover, after she had visited one camp, she moved to others where she also had many things to play with. Many boys, dogs, horses and so on play with her. In addition, she learned indian language and to play bows. That’s why she told to her aunt that it is a paradise.
Because Cathy are excited with what she saw, she doesn’t want to discontinue her feeling and use a very long setense and long paragraph to describe her experience. In the human society, it is impossibe that we live in a no stress world compassing beautiful view. We always have to earn money, overcome frustration and handle every kind of matters. However, I don’t think it is bad for us. We can learn many knowledge and get much experience when we confront the difficulties.
In this chapter, the story still goes on the little girl horse. In last one, Alison wrote a letter to his brother-in-law and to inquire his whether he could raise her sister’s daughter. Continuously, Alison asks his mother to do so. Alison depicts how good Cathy, the lillte girl horse, is in the same way as last chapter. She has many abilities and takes over many Alison’s duties so that he lost his solemnity, gravity, poise and dignity. However, although she is pretty good, she has temper and burstout fast. Even because of her temper, she obeies Alison’s orders. In my opinion, if Cathy is good and does a lot of assitance for Alison, why he wants to persuade his brother-in-law and mother to raise her? There may be something that Alison could not endure. If this pattern is suitable for humankinds, when salers attempt to sell products, they always promote how useful, beneficial the goods are. They never mention about the disadvantages of the products. If salers do so, they only say the very tiny flaw that the merits of product would outweight much. To sum up, the author not only described how good Cathy is, on the other hand, he but also imply that Cathy is not actually as perfect as everyone like.
In this chapter, the author utilized the form of letter to depict the story. First, the horse told his brother-in-law to raise his sister’s dauther, Catherine, because of her parents’ no recovery. Then the horse told his brother-in-law somthing about Cathy. She has many merits, which are from her parents, including grace, sense of justice, vivacity, cheerfulness, etc. In addition, even though she is only nine years old, she learns as many as five languages: Spanish, English, Franch, German and Italian. Moreover, her maturity in mind is above the same age children. Finally, the author took one of her events for example to describe her invention is right, but the judgement is wrong and how cute she is. The event is that when she sees the big ant was trying to kill the little one, she was very engry and brought her foot down upon the floor to kill the big one; however this action killed two ants. The horse continued to persuade his brother-in-law that she could make him younger and cheerful when he is in retired status.
The horse is belonged to Buffalo Bill. The author uses the perspective of horse to describe the story about itself. The horse is proud of his many abilities and good manner. He does great assistance for his raiser to be a scout. He learns much from Buffalo Bill. Then, he states the lineage of his parents to depict his appearance. Moreover, he is very popular with others in garrison. Mark Twain uses sugar to show that how he is very welcomed by people. Finally, he adore himself because of his adventage again.
